Scaling up renewable materials for energy renovation

In preparation for ShiftUp’s upcoming EU project LIFE AREC – Agro Reno Empower Collective, kicking off this summer, Florian Bonert visited the GETEC (Gebäude.Energie.Technik) trade fair to explore energy renovation solutions made from renewable materials.

The variety of available solutions was impressive – straw, wood fibre, cellulose, clay, and lime – used for insulation, facades, interior panelling, and load-bearing elements. Some providers are already making strides toward industrial prefab elements for energy renovation.

LIFE AREC will focus on strengthening local supply chains to integrate these materials into regional renovation projects. The key? Aggregating a critical mass of local demand to drive real change.

Other frontrunners include: Naturbau Nunnenmacher, LIGNOTREND Produktions GmbH, and many more, coming together in trade associations like FASBA – Fachverband Strohballenbau Deutschland e.V (FASBA) and Dachverband Lehm e.V.

Let’s accelerate sustainable renovation! 🚀
